Can't reach unlock HG612

Hi all,

For past hour I have been trying to carry out the instructions on here. https://kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612hacking.htm

But I cannot get past step 8 because the modem won't talk to my PC. I've set the IP address on my network card exactly as recommended and I have tried to go to the IP address as set forth in the guide. I have repeated the first 7 steps about ten times now and it is driving me mad!

Please help!

Simple thing to check - are you connected to LAN2?

Thanks for responding. Yes, definitely LAN2. It briefly lights up after the "reset" and I can see it trying to make connection with my PC. After maybe 10-15 seconds the lights to the LAN2 go out and only the power light is on.
