No sound?
« on: June 13, 2020, 01:43:34 PM »

Right...
I recently purchased a refurbished Dell Optiplex 790, from Amazon.
Unfortunately, due to my 9-year-old PC dying. I couldn't afford to get another new one with the spec I have on this one.
It's running Windows 10 Pro
When I first set it up, the sound was fine with my existing speaker system....two speakers & active (powered)sub....Nicole SD522 2.1 subwoofer system

Now I have lost the sound?
I've checked the speaker leads etc all plugged in OK.

I'm lost with what I can do now.
Any help gratefully received.

Bob

First thing click the speaker icon and make sure you haven't muted it, if that's OK right click the speaker icon and check the mixer, make sure they are not all turned down.

Right click the speaker icon and click trouble shoot

Right click the speaker icon and check sound settings, make sure the correct output device is selected

Check the driver is installed properly in device manager, and see if there is any available updates from Dell - usually done via the serial number.

Thank you Ronski.
a really strange thing happened..
I was going through the things you mentioned, and a window popped in to say Dell is scanning the PC. ???
I then got the blue screen of death, saying there is a problem and windows is checking the pC and will re-start.
Well, it didn't, so I turned it off pressing the start button on front of the PC it turned of OK, so I waited for a short while, then booted up again.
And wo & behold the sound is back, only on one speaker though lol.
I then realised that I had downloaded Dell's support help (I think it's called).
It was recommended by one of the purchasers of the same Optiplex when I was checking the reviews.
I guess it was that?? ::)
Anyway, I at least have sound now, albeit only on one speaker and the sub.
I guess I'll have to invest in another speaker set. ::)
Thanks again for your help.

Do you mean the ports for the RCA cables?
If so, they are at the rear of the active sub.

It would be worth unplugging and plugging in again all speaker connections, to the PC, the active sub, and speakers, just in case its a bad connection.
