Well it seems my old ADSL Nation 1.0 finally died, but in the weirdest way.

My line was 100% stable back to 3dB 73.99Mbit but I was tidying up some cables so unplugged the modem and plugged it back in, and couldn't get sync.

Tried a different PSU, tried my Plusnet Hub One, nothing.  Removed the filter and used the one that came with the Hub One, and synced.

How can the filter fail in such a way that it has zero impact, until you try to resync?

Possibly there was a dry-joint where the 8P2C socket was soldered to the PCB and the disturbance, by virtue of removal of the plug (of the patch cable linking it to the CPE), was enough to make that joint become open circuit?

Yeah I do think the RJ11 socket may have been going a bit dodgy for a while, although I didn't actually unplug it a dry joint would certainly be upset at moving the modem.

Although I think I only moved the PSU initially.

If it is possible to open up the filter, without any damage, then a close inspection of the PCB followed by an application of a hot soldering iron may result in an appropriate repair.
