Hi

What issues is your Dad having?

There are no guarantees a different router, i.e. a Broadcom would perform better.  It is very line dependant.  So unless you have a specific issue which has a good chance of being made better by the change, it may be a waste of time and money.

no issues... hes on 40/10 with max of 53 and 13 - I just thought if he had a G.INP modem (broadcom) it would make VDSL take up less effective to him, as a few more sign ups in his cable and he could be lookin at sub-par 40Mb ...so I thought all the benefits of having Broadcom-to-Broadcom (PHyR / G.INP)will be beneficial in the long run

G.INP works across all vendors and works on the Plusnet Hub One.

PhyR is Broadcom only but isn't used for FTTC.

I recommend the keeps the Plusnet Hub One if it serves his needs.

G.INP works across all vendors and works on the Plusnet Hub One.

It did seem very unstable on mine, but that's probably the specific modem firmware on OpenWRT.

I presume what is on the stock firmware has been proven stable, certainly seems to be from the reports in the ECI G.INP trial.

I Get WAY BETTER stats on a Broadcom<->Lantitiq(ECI) cab - - i lose 7Mb with the hube one and LA is 5.6db - on broadcom i get 7Mb + and 6.4db

G.INP works better on Broadcom equipemt... as above

Without trying a Broadcom based unit you can't know if it'll be better of not - and it's certainly not a given.
I'd try a Zyxel VMG8924-B10A (or VMG8324-B10A if 5GHz Wifi not needed) as they are available for sensible prices secondhand and in my, albeit limited, experience work very well indeed.

Does it?

G.INP works fine on the Lantiq modems.

It was a combination of ECI DSLAM's and some Lantiq chipsets that caused issues.

There's no issues with Huawei/Broadcom DSLAM's and Lantiq chipsets like the Plusnet Hub One.

Alex is on the ECI G.INP trial, not a Huawei cabinet.

Your dad syncs at the full rate with some headroom.
There's no reason to change from the Plusnet Hub if he's happy with it.

there was no mention of him moving
:)

also i intend to take my  Zyxel VMG8924-B10A and DSL-Stats over when lockdwn ends and give it a bash
YES he has headroom...but wouldnt it hurt to put the better modem on and possibly give gim more headroom?. lso G.INP helps removes noise spikes from the line so there a benefit there - costs isnt an issue

thanks for all the advice guys n gals, taken on board! :)

oh and he;s having wifi resecption issues in rooms... i put this down to the poor wifi in the Hub One (edit: and the brick walls in the house)

Netgear DGND 3700:

Max Rate: 82115 / 26412
Sync Rate: 79999 / 19999
Line Atten: 0.0dB / 0.0dB
SNR: 6.1dB / 15.1dB
G.INP: Enabled / Not Enabled
Interleave depth: 16 1
INP: 48.00 0

Billion 8800NL:

Max Rate: 86467 / 25339
Sync Rate: 79999 / 19999
Line Atten: 12.0dB / 0.0dB
SNR: 6.7dB / 15.9dB
G.INP: Enabled / Not Enabled
Interleave depth: 16 1
INP: 48.00 0

Zyxel xmg3927-b50a:

Max Rate: 81206 / 23052
Sync Rate: 79999 / 19999
Line Atten: 11.9dB / 0.0dB
SNR: 5.7dB / 14.6dB
G.INP: Enabled / Not Enabled
Interleave depth: 16 1
INP: 48.00 0

Plusnet Hub One:

Max Rate: 79205 / 23730
Sync Rate: 79903 / 19999
Line Atten: 11.0dB / 12.8dB
SNR: 4.7dB / 15.2dB
G.INP: Unknown / Unknown
Interleave depth: Unknown / Unknown
INP: Unknown / Unknown

I would NOT recommend Plusnet Hub One - overall very poor stats for short line FTTC
