Switched Supplier, SNR Dropped, Speed Slower
« on: May 19, 2020, 09:34:50 AM »

I switched supplier from TalkTalk to Vodafone on Monday, both being an 80/20 package. When the switch happened I noticed a drop in the downstream SNR from 10 to 7 and speed tests (speedtest.net and fast.com) are generally slower now by a drop of around 5-10mbps and my ping has gone up from 16-18ms to 21-23ms. My sync speeds are still the same so it may just be the Vodafone network but hoping someone can take a look at my stats in case I'm missing something.

I did also note my ES numbers have gone down but FEC errors have gone up (that doesn't seem a bad thing from what I've read)

Changing provider results in a DLM reset meaning even though you have full sync you have interleaving enabled.  This should be removed within a few days and may account for a bit of throughput loss as its being used for error correction rather than throughput.  Wouldn't have thought it would account for as much difference as you are experiencing though.  I have heard that Vodafone may not be the best contention wise though so that may explain any difference after interleaving is removed.  I am sure someone with more knowledge will correct above if wrong :)

Interleave Depth=1 and INP=0 is what you need to look out for.  I can also tell on my line when the FEC graph doesn't have any red lines is a good sign of no interleaving.  Also assuming standard ECI cabinet not on the Ginp trial as not sure if these observations change if Ginp is enabled (bearer 1 will be listed if this is the case).  Stating the obvious but do not resync manually just leave it alone hopefully after 3+ days you will notice it has reset overnight and interleaving will be gone.

Looks like things changed last night when the line resynced at 23:47 and I'm off interleving. speedtest.net and fast.com seem to be giving higher results and ping seems to be lower too.

Yes agree.  Your sync is now running as good/fast as it possibly can :)
