And BT FTTP is now available to me! VN contract renews April so a good chance for a haggle between the two.

The BT headline price is more than VM's discounted price (£39.99 v £31) but we shall see. BT offer a better upload speed which is useful to me as I upload quite a few photographs .

Still - good news!

Guess it depends on how good Virgin are in your area, they are far more prone to contention issues especially on upstream.

BT have a number of different links with different prices.
I find the online offers much better than the sales staff are able to negotiate.

https://www.bt.com/broadband/deals
https://www.bt.com/campaign/full-fibre
https://www.bt.com/campaign/full-fibre-240
https://www.bt.com/broadband/bristol
https://www.bt.com/broadband/deals/affiliate-offer/ (I've shortened this very long affiliate link).

For example following the Bristol link I got BT FTTP 160/30 for £29.99 a month.

The house three doors down has ordered FTTP. Unfortunately, the OR chap found that the duct from the chamber to the house is blocked. And its only 5 meters away from the house! He is going to bring in the A Team to sort it. We expect helicopters any moment!

Getting close to end of contract with VM.

Am I right in saying that the fibre cable can be mounted externally from the duct to a more convenient spot and then pushed into the property? There would be a couple of corners to go round.

Is it called EZ bend and does it come in different flavours if EZ bendability?

Yes, that can be done.

I'm aware of EZ Bend optical cable being used internally but am not sure about its external usage.

Looking at an example, I see the outer sheath is marked --

OFS EZ BEND G.657.B3 OPTICAL CABLE #C- MO4.8C-

Some more snaps of the overhead fibre shenanigans round my way.

The first snap is the pole where the fibre funds down I to the ground and has then been trenched to a chamber.

Impressively clear photos of the fibre gear, I've been watching a similar install go up around my way, but nowhere near as close up as the shots you've managed to get :)

Ducting installed and roped ready for BT (external underground ducting to take fibre from BT duct along a wall to the "server room")

All systems go. 150/30 8ms ping.

A fairly tidy job by Mr Quinn.
