FTTP Openreach Stone Staffs
« on: May 14, 2020, 02:08:20 PM »

Noticed that OR were lifting chamber covers near where I live so had a chat. They are roping through the ducts ready for FTTP.

Good news then - we are cabled up for VM but FTTP competition will be very useful.

We are on the list for FTTP but I imagined it wouldn’t happen in a rush. Of course roping through is not the same as fibre installation but it’s progress. Given my BT cabinet is 1.5 km away and an ECI dslam FTTP would be a real upgrade.

Yes, indeed. Every process has a starting point . . . but it's the ending point (of the installation process) that would be more significant.

My parents were near you, near Hollington Staffs, few miles from Uttoxeter. (As opposed to the other Hollington in Derbyshire) Janet’s old mum is in Eccleshall so just next door to you.

Contractors have been working last couple of days installing fibre from chamber to chamber.

They laid FTTP within a month here from first vans appearing.

Super quick turn around and already installed.

Very happy to get away from VM, they were very inconsistent and mostly deny any issue.

More contractors around today. More fibre going in. ;D

BT Openreach and KN Circet. Former confirmed that our road is on the list.

VM contract renews next May so could have an interesting haggle with them and BT.

Just looked on our ORION tool, this indicates (using colours) what status PONS are at. Stone looks to be well on its way to being nearly completed regarding surveys, with most of the PON's now having a build-pack created meaning civils, cabling & splicing will be in progress.

Great news for Stone residents.  :)

Well. FTTP is being offered and up and active on most houses near me - but not offered to me - yet. We are a small road just off the main estate ,and our BT connection  predates the new connections made for the rest of the estate.

But I didn't think the existing copper/fttc arrangements would impact FTTP?

It depends on which FTTP programme the 'main estate' falls under ?? If it's 'Retro New Sites' (ie: built within the last 30yrs) then this will be because the estate is ducted. If your 'small road' is fed overhead or by buried cable (DiG), then it probably won't have been captured on the Ghost Plan blueprint ??

It's a hard call to make based off the info we have, I'm afraid.

The OR team have been in our road - they were checking where a particular chamber was (its hidden under a neighbour's planting) and feeding rope through. They said that FTTP would be available. Ah well - not to worry.

Great news! I know you have all been concerned about my situation. Today contractors were installing fibre and a CBT - which I think means connectorised block terminal - into the chamber just around the corner. From there I imagine they run the final bit of cable when the customer makes an order.

Yes, that is the correct interpretation.

Yes. Assuming that the chamber is designated as the customer's DP.

Snapped. BT chamber with presumably fibre optic cables and a manifold connector?

Yes, fibre optic tubes (or cables) but not a manifold. I'm not sure . . . it might be a track joint or even an aggregation node.

Perhaps j0hn has an opinion?

Looks like the shape and colour of an Aggregation Node, as seen in the attached pic.
Although I'm unsure if the attached image is 100% definitive.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's not definitive and that probably isn't an Aggregation Node  :-\
