Author Topic: Recomended IP Configuration for HG612 Modem + Router running the LAN  (Read 953 times)

Hi,
I'm looking for the best IP config for my setup.
I have an HG612 modem as a modem on my FTTC service (with Now TV).
And an Asus Router looking after everything on the LAN side.
Assuming I use an IP range of 10.n.n.x on the LAN with x being the subnet.
Should I assign 10.n.n.1 to the modem, 10.n.n.2 to the router and everything from 10.n.n.3 up to 10.n.n.255 to the clients on the LAN?
I am assuming the modem needs to be in the same subnet so I can access it via LAN Port 2.
Am I on the right track please?
I did have this running untill a ligtening strike took out my modem, router, nas and a load of other electronic kit  :'(
and I can't get hold of my config files until I can get back online properly. My disaster recovery didn't cover such a disaster .
It also blew a hole on my roof but that's a subject for a different forum  ;D.
Thanks as always for any advice.

The default IPv4 address of an unlocked HG612 is 192.168.1.1 and I would be tempted to assign the router the 192.168.1.254 IPv4 address, thus leaving the 192.168.1.[2-253] range free for all LAN-side devices.

If you really want to use the 10.n.n.n IPv4 RFC1918 address range then, yes, as you have proposed will work satisfactorily.

Regarding the lightening zap, have Openreach replaced the NTE5 and SSFP?
