New connection to Zen Fibre
« on: April 29, 2020, 10:47:16 AM »

Hello so I have just been connected to Zen Fibre 2, probably about 20 minutes or so ago now. I know this has probably been asked a million times on here before and also this is probably the wrong place to post this but...

My speed (with TalkTalk) was round 70Mb, and as of right now with the router provided by Zen (FRITZ!Box 7530) my speed appears to be down to 60Mb.

Code: [Select]
Negotiated Connection Properties
Receive Direction Send Direction
Max. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 80000 20000
Min. DSLAM throughput kbit/s 128 128
Attainable throughput kbit/s 61882 20554
Current throughput kbit/s 60683 20000
Seamless rate adaptation off off

Latency 8 ms fast
Impulse Noise Protection (INP) 3 0
G.INP off off

Signal-to-noise ratio dB 6 6
Bitswap off off
Line attenuation dB 13 13
approximate line length m 284

Profile 17a
G.Vector off off

Carrier record J43 J43

These are the stats, I am on a ECI exchange.

Is the speed likely to increase? Also my latency has jumped from 10ms to around 30ms (even though i'm on fast path).

Zen estimated my speed to be between 65 and 80Mb according to the site.

Any insight is welcomed, thanks.

EDIT: Interestingly upon first connection the sync was higher and then shortly after it looks like it was told to resync and the speed decreased? Picture attached.

Your not on fastpath, you are interleaved.
It adds 8ms latency and knocks (roughly) 10% off your sync speed.

It's normal for your line to revert to Interleaving when changing ISP.

If it remains stable it will return to fastpath.

Oh shoot, I misread my stats. I haven't had my coffee yet  :P

By the way, i've read on Zen's website they use a line profile labeled as "speed". Would/could that potentially suggest my speed will be slightly higher than 70Mb when things settle?

If not its fine either way, getting the 70 would be more than fine for me.

Both the Speed and Standard DLM profiles (the 2 that are commonly used by ISP's) offer the exact same speeds.

They simply determine the error thresholds that DLM uses to apply or remove Interleaving.

Those on the Speed profile are more likely to be on fastpath.

edit to add:
Sync speeds should be identical between ISP's, excluding any DLM changes.
Fastpath on 1 should be the same as fastpath on any ISP.

Ahh I see, makes more sense. Well fingers crossed tomorrow morning I see improved speeds.

I'll be sure to update this post with new information when my line updates, just so if anyone else reading is curious.

Just curious as to what this could be?

Code: [Select]
Seconds With Not Remediable Errors (CRC)
Errors (ES) Many
Errors (SES) per
Minute Last
15 Minutes
FRITZ!Box 0 0 0 0
[b]Central exchange 1 0 0 0[/b]

Highlighted in bold, I have never heard of a Central Exchange error (or rather I should say seen  :P ) only CRC, FEC etc... is Central Exchange the same as FEC and should I be concerned by it?

I have no idea but might I recommend putting these copy/pasted tables into the code (#) tag so they retain their formatting?  Much easier to read then.

pre tags work better in that you can use bold, colours etc. inside them.

I didn't even know the forum supported pre-formatted text, that icon looks like justified text (considering its next to left, centre, right) so I glossed over it.

So its been roughly 24 hours since my line connected with Zen.

So far no resyncs, still at the same speed as yesterday. I thought DLM does checks every night at around 3am? Would have thought the line would have done a resync to put my speed up or put me on fast path.

Only thing different is this:

Code: [Select]
Seconds With Not Remediable Errors (CRC)
Errors (ES) Many
Errors (SES) per
Minute Last
15 Minutes
FRITZ!Box 0 0 0 0
Central exchange 4 0 0 0

I have 4 CE ES now, again 4 doesn't seem to be that much so I don't think its to be concerened about... unless someone tells me otherwise lol

Whenever I’ve changed ISP, it’s always been a minimum of 48 hours to go from interleaved to fastpath.

No problem :) Possibly get a resync in the early hours of either Friday or Saturday morning, assuming everything remains stable.

Cool fingers and toes crossed yeah?  :fingers:  ;) I'm hoping my speed goes back to its usualy 70Mb.

I really like how transparent Zens userpanel on their website is, its the only ISP i've seen that tells you basically everything about your line.
