Any FTTP providers supporting BGP announce?
« on: April 15, 2020, 03:50:05 PM »

Hi folks im looking for some recommendations - 1000/220 openreach FTTP is available at a property im going to be moving into.

Other than AAISP - are there any ISPs which will support BGP announce over FTTP?

I have my own AS and IPV4 allocation, and I would like to made use of that. i dont mind if the package is residential or business. I would also prefer 1000/220 but that seems rare as hens teeth at the moment.

Not a clue to be honest with you.

Just to note AAISP won't sell any FTTP above 330/50 and they cap the downstream to 160Mb.

1000/220 is priced very high (deliberately) to protect OpenReach's leased line revenue.

OpenReach also sell 1000/115 with much more reasonable pricing if the extra upstream isn't needed.

There aren't many ISP's selling either tier at this moment in time.

Yep am aware, ive had many AAISP products and know Adrian well enough to DM with him. The best I can get out of him is that AAISP are not offering 1000 "yet" which is a change from the old world of "no plans to go over 160"

Yeah I never really got my head around that. It makes zero sense, if FTTP is available why would any company with a leased line not just switch to the lower cost FTTP product. Would have imagined that 1000/115 covers the vast majority of leased line customers anyway - it must be a niche market of leased line revenue to only focus between 115mbps and 220mbps (and even then, 90 quid a month wholesale for 220 up is still going to beat any leased line hands down). In short, if there is FTTP any leased line customer would move to 1000/115 or 1000/220 and be way better off, even with the 220 pricing. Common sense seems to have gone out the window.

Im happy enough to pay the extra for 220, i move a lot of data around. its triple the wholesale monthly cost, but thats still not a massive headache really.

therein lies the problem. Spectrum seems the most viable until AAIsp up the speeds, 24 month contract at 199/mo ...

though who knows what will happen with 1000/115 over the coming months once covids out the way and things start moving again.

Until AAISP ditch the insistence on using FireBricks or invent a 10G Firebrick they are unlikely to offer higher tiers any time soon.

I think Cerberus are selling both 1000/220 and 1000/115.

Spectrum have different pricing depending on where in the country you are.

Please be aware that the prices below are our “on-net” prices. This means that we provide a slightly different service to areas in South Wales and Bristol. Not in one of those areas? Not to worry, click here to see our pricing for your area

Looks like 1000/220 is only available in "on-net" areas at present and with a £799 install fee.

They are indeed. Not bad price point and only a 12 month contract too. with a bunch of included IPs I could also not need to do BGP announce and could even just peer to them via linx.

yeah you are right! their tool wasnt happy with my postcode and displayed the generic on net. Good spot.

interestingly BT.com seem to think only up to 80 meg can be serviced at the address/postcode, whereas openreach, cerebus, AAISp etc etc all show ultrafast.

Thanks for the feedback sir.

BT have removed some (maybe all?) FTTP pricing from their website.
Some orders can still be placed by calling the FTTP sales line.

The £59.99 for 1000/115 they are charging likely won't be beaten but the lack of static IP and control over the connection you require could be an issue.

Lack of static may not be an issue, I have some peering into BT so could always just tunnel everything via wireguard. 0.5ms overhead, i can handle for a significant monthly cost saving.

I take it the pricing been removed due to covid meaning no on site engineers?

out of interest, is there any precedence for a 2nd service being carried over a 2nd port on the ONT?

I know that psychopomp1 takes two separate services via the Openreach badged Huawei HG8240, the original "4 + 2" ONT.

Yes but apparently BT can only provision on Port 1.

Other providers have no such issue adding a service to other ports.

psychopomp1 might even have 3 active ports now.

ooh this is looking up then. With the new 1000/115 pricing I could just provision 2 services, self bond the connections and get 2000/230 for a lower price point than 1000/220. interesting. thanks!

On my 4 port ONT, I have Fluidone 330/30 on port 1, Trunk Networks 330/50 on port 2 and BT Business 330/50 on port 3. All work as they should.

BT Business should be releasing 1000/220 soon (instead of 1000/115 like their residential sibling sells), it should be considerably cheaper than other ISPs. It might be the best option for the OP.

@plexus  Before you get too excited, has the property you are moving to already have an FTTP service and is there an existing 4 port ONT? If there is no existing service Openreach will install a single port ONT as they no longer supply the 4 port version. So multiple ISP services will mean separate fibres to multiple ONTs which may not be what you want.

Indeed. They will install a single port ONT if you don't already have an ONT installed.
If you order a 2nd service they will install a 2nd ONT but only if capacity allows.

Not a problem if you already have a 4 port ONT enabled.

They won't activate an ONT purchased on eBay for example.

Mad strategy imo.
