IDNet latency issues
« on: April 09, 2020, 08:50:41 PM »

Anyone here on IDNet having raised latency issues since 11am this morning?

Seems things are worse than just latency... speed is down massively. Usually get up to 57Mbps (max for line sync) but throughput tonight is around 4Mbps though upstream is not affected.

Powering down both the modem (Vigor 130) and router made no difference.

Hmm . . . That is not looking good.  :(

On checking the IDNet Status page I see --

Major Service Outage

21CN WBC COPPER : CAMBERLEY D 1ST FLR : LOSS OF SERVICE

2020-04-09 14:07:51

BT is making progress towards full restoration of Service. Further updates will be provided as soon as possible.

Status: Initial

Detected: 2020-04-09 14:05:00

Estimated Clear Time: 2020-04-09 18:54:00

Would that be related to what you are experiencing?

It's possible. It's the only issue listed but things went bad for me 3 hours earlier than the detected time.

I've just noticed --

Broadband - ADSL/FTTC/FTTP
Engineers are currently investigating an issue with one of our links out to our suppliers. This caused a disconnection and reconnection where traffic failed over to our secondary link. We are continuing to monitor and chase for further updates with suppliers and are monitoring increased latency levels due to the increased traffic on the secondary link.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused

Thanks Burakkucat. I missed that also. The status page has also been updated with other issues as well.

Let's hope it's not the entire weekend as I'm at risk and stuck indoors :(

Well in the last 20 minutes it looks like things are sorted.

Latency back to normal and speed test back up as well (though a check to a Manchester server was still half of normal download - London server was fine).

Our IDNet line also showed a very similar pattern yesterday.  Looks very similar to Zico's from 11am to 10pm:

Everything back to normal since 11pm yesterday evening.

That's almost identical jaydub. Apart from a couple of extra max yellow spikes around 2pm and my own power down at 9:20pm, the pattern is the same.

On a side note but same topic of latency patterns, do you get these odd decreasing triangles in your TBB graphs? This is one example on the 27th March:

I don't notice any issues when they happen but they appear now and again on the odd day, sometimes smaller, sometimes larger, sometime solid triangles, sometimes individual spikes spread out, but always the same downwards triangle pattern.

Hi Zico.

I've never seen anything like that on my connection.

This is a reasonably typical day for me.  I'm working from home so a lot of emails and MS One Drive usage with a reasonable number of Skype calls and MS Teeam meetings going on plus web browsing and occasional video streaming in the evening.

Not exactly maxing the connection, is it?

I've been working at home since the 19th March and don't notice any slow down or anything else for that matter.

I can only think that it has something to do with my Vigor 2926 router as they only started to appear after I swapped out my old Billion 8000NL R2. The patterns also form at times when nothing would be using the connection (I've only got my main PC, Xbox X and a Samsung TV connected) so it's odd.

Was wondering what happened... in London (Shepherd's Bush) too, so it must've been a core issue.
