Is this anything to do with telecomms?
« on: June 05, 2020, 04:20:45 PM »

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone can identify this, being green i immediately thought telecomms, but it's nowhere near any cabs / JBs so might not be related at all!

I suspect it is just a jointing post for a mains electricity supply to some nearby street furniture. Are there any markings (or labels) on it?

We've got one of them near us, I'm pretty sure it is BT telecoms jointing post.

That is interesting. If we go back by 65 to 70 years I would have said "yes, something to do with the GPO telephone service".

Close-up pictures of any markings may help.

I don’t think that the likes of it is shown in the list of images given in the BT “Identifying our equipment” file. (I doubt I remember the title correctly). Burakkucat kindly sent me that BT document.

Is there any possibility it might be a base upon which a lamp post, or other illuminated sign, might later be deployed?

I think 7LM might be on the right track, there appears to be some kind of clip or fixing on the front of it.

We moved here 18 years ago, no idea when I first noticed it but its been there for many years, I can't think of any need for illuminated signs, and the lamp posts are all separate from it. I'm also sure I've seen these mentioned on one of the forums before as relating to telecoms.

I may take a wander down there at some point over the weekend and get some close up pictures.

Are there any nearby traffic lights or lights like the two flashing amber lights you see approaching schools?

Whatever it is it looks to me like a bit of a trip hazard, seemingly close to a pavement yet below line of sight and painted green, same colour as the grass.

It's a mark4 'Dog Weeing post'  and it's working well with the dead grass at the base.

I would say it's a 'Electrical Feeder Pillar Lift-off Door' for a road sign or maybe a in-the road buried
traffic sensor.

Too narrow to be a typical street furniture feeder pillar. At most that would contain a 1PH service using a 16mm service using a 25A street lighting cutout.

Wow thanks for all the replies. Nowhere near any street cabs / lights / posts / traffic lights. I'll get some close up pics. I did tweet OR about it and they said it wasn't on their maps as anything to do with them but they were also curious as to what it was.

Here it is on street view, few years old but nothings changed
