Sorry to hijack the thread temporarily; I’m hoping this is almost on-topic :

[Moderator note: This query is worthy of its own thread. Hence the split.]

I’m using VMG 1312-B10A modems now. What do I do when in future I can’t get hold of replacements any more? I.e. when or there are no second hand ones even, or when those to be had are decrepit, possibly even unreliable geriatrics?

Can someone suggest a replacement ZyXEL model which is just as good ? Specifically in that it
  • is supported with Johnson’s custom firmware
  • has the good analog filter front end hardware as in the VMG 1312-B10A and which is absent in the inferior B10D device

The only other router/modem for which johnson has created a custom firmware is the VMG3925-B10B (but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the analog filter such as VMG1312-B10A and VMG8x24-B10A) have a look here: https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,21273.msg412915.html#msg412915

Remind me what is kitz using and does her model also have that same good hardware?

I have a very vague memory of several per-model builds being available in the past but perhaps I’m just full of nonsense? In any event, perhaps our hero Johnson could be persuaded to do another build or too, cheeky to ask though when he has already done so much.
