New doctor
« on: March 28, 2020, 07:19:39 PM »

My good friend’s daughter down in Yorkshire became a medical doctor yesterday :congrats: :congrats: She got her exam results early because of the current crisis and suddenly she’s now an MD. Twenty years ago I saw her with a bag of tiny books, when she was a few years old, and she would read one for a bit then switch to another, could never decide which one she wanted to read a little from next. Early reading perhaps helped. She was at hospitals in York and in Hull; I haven’t asked her yet where she is now. She wants to be a GP. Masochist. Anyway straight into emergency medicine at the moment I think Janet said. What a time to start, worst time in a 100 years? Or we can say greatest crisis since the war; I’m not counting the Cold War nuclear war crises in the early 1960s and in 1983, which are a totally different kind of thing.

I think a "baptism of fire" would be the best description.

Congrats to her.

What a time to be entering though.

I am worried about her. And her father, one of my oldest friends may be worrying too, I hope not though. My cousin’s daughter is a surgeon, I’m not sure how far she is through her long surgical training now. Iirc she does bones.

That is great news! :)

It's good to see that dreams can become reality.
