Linksys routers - reconfiguration attack
« on: March 27, 2020, 02:04:19 AM »

There is some badness out here, a malware exe iirc, downloaded from the web on unsecured machines, which attacks your Linksys router, possibly some DLink models too and tweaks it so that dns is perverted. Then once the router has been modified anyone going to certain websites, according to domain names in a certain known list, redirects you to an evil site that downloads more malware.

Make sure your router has a strong, long password set on its admin interface and update it to the latest firmware from the linksys website. I don’t know if you can choose an admin username on these models but if you can, definitely change the username away from the default, so that will completely frustrate any password guessing.

Recently a financial services company had 55 million login password guesses sustained over a period of 24 hours on some of its servers.
