Line 3 failed - "one leg dis"
« on: March 24, 2020, 05:47:30 PM »

At the weekend my line 3 failed, loss of sync, lots of packet loss. AA and Openreach managed to get it fixed within a few hours on Monday the moment staff were available. Fantastic job by AA.

AA’s page https://www.aa.net.uk/covid-19/ says OR are limiting or stopping some kinds of jobs including some repairs, but I don’t understand what that means.

AA refererred to https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/03/covid-19-openreach-stop-uk-broadband-isp-and-phone-work.html

Will BTOR then do repairs where an engineer doesn’t have to enter the customer’s premises? Also something about exemptions for ‘vulnerable customers’? Perhaps I am the latter?

It could be I only just got in before the deadline ? which is midnight tonight.

Yes, correct and yes, you should be.  :)

Honestly though, if they DID need to come in the house I don't think its worth the risk, so long as even one line still works.

I'd expect OR to be mostly business as usual, as most of their work is pretty isolated IMO.

I can’t make out where the fault was exactly from the engineer’s notes, "point JB23", "Eaton House"

=Point Of Intervention notes===

Between this point...
- Location: JB23 opp Eaton House
- Work Point: JB23
And this point...

Plant details...
- Plant affected: JNT50
- Plant type: UCJ

Multiple Intervention?: N
===Point Of Intervention notes ends===

and
Clear: 82.2 In Joint AreaCable (Underground)

My interpretation:
  • There was a fault within an underground joint closure of type "JNT50".
  • The joint closure is located in a joint box, "JB23".
  • The joint box is located opposite "Eaton House".
  • I expect to find "Eaton House" located on the A87, somewhere between NSBRD and the junction at Harrapul with the road to Heasta.

Agreed. I have seen those terms used in engineers’ notes from earlier fault reports. I asked Janet what "Eaton House" might mean, but it doesn’t ring any bells.

@Alex - good point.

We really need the assistance of someone who can access the Openreach network records, for the Isle of Skye.
