Openreach testing symmetrical FTTP speeds

Quote
Openreach (BT) has announced trials of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP solution that has been “designed with business customers in mind,” which so far as we can tell appears to be laying the ground work for their future symmetric speed tiers going up to 1000Mbps.

As I was reading this article all I could think was, it makes such a difference when there is competition  ;)

Cant help but feel the upcoming VM/sky alliance and cityfibre is pushing their hand on this.

VM seem to love Leicester so I expect Leics will end up with FTTP from cityfibre and VM, and then openreach will magically decide its viable and announce the area.  Although openreach already dont seem bothered VM are cleaning the area out so maybe not, almost everyone in the city and suburbs I know is on VM, and driving around checking WAP's indicates the same, and isnt enough to motivate them to try and get these customers via FTTP.

It's good news, no doubt a move that was encouraged by Openreach's competition. However I'm guessing that the pricing might be high to begin with, e.g. into the hundreds per month range. An altnet ISP is currently rolling out their own 1000/1000 service locally, for £40 per month I believe, but I expect it'll be years before it arrives at my street.

This stuff? Same price as the existing 1000/220 and 550/165 tiers, however Openreach are very busy with regards to pricing FTTP at the moment so, by the time it's a retail product, piece of string.

Of course we don't even know how much ISPs will charge for 550/165 and 1000/220 yet.

Yeah we do, it's the new consumer products we don't know about just yet.

Doh, you're right.  Don't know why I keep making that mistake.

Note to self, consumer packages are 550/75 and 1000/115!
