I have a .com domain name that was registered with 123-reg, want to transfer it to AA, who do registrations, auto-renewal, DNS hosting, the whole lot in fact. I got an auth code / EPP code from 123-regís website, unlocked the domain and emailed the code to AA. I got an email back from AA sales telling me the code was bad.

Do such codes have to be used within a certain time? Is there a very short lifetime on these codes ?

What else could I have screwed up? Itís not the domain name itself, I checked that by copy-and-paste from the auth code result page, which helpfully quotes the domain name back to you as confirmation of what itís referring to so I canít really have got my domain names mixed up

Hi

The code last for 5 days and the code is generated when the domain is unlocked.

If not transferred within 5 days, domain is auto locked

So you cannot go wrong unless you unlocked wrong domain to that been transferred.  If so I would expect aa stating domain locked.

You would be best to open a support ticket with 123reg and ask them

or

Allow aa access into your 123reg account to transfer for you

Many thanks

Thanks, I didnít know it was as usefully long as that. If it goes wrong again, Iíll just open a ticket with 123-reg and throw the problem back at them.

AA got back to me, all is well. Thanks guys for clearing that up for me. I never knew what the lifetime was, nor even that it had a standard value. Best.
