Domain and email only hosting
« on: February 18, 2020, 09:59:46 AM »

A friend is being asked £96 to renew a .uk domain by ionos! He currently has a website but could drop it. Any suggestions?

Hi jelv

Blimey I need to look at our pricing :)

Are you sure it’s just domain renewal and not domain and hosting or just hosting

You would need to look closely at agreement if thinking of transferring domain, Incase it’s locked to a contract at start ie free domain with hosting but charges may apply if transferred out

I could be entirely wrong so apologies in advance

Many thanks

This is his initial post:

Quote
Just been notified of a price hike by ionos whose domain name registration and email services I use.... the next 12 months are going to cost me £96 .... this seems an awful lot for a couple of email accounts - so I am looking for any cheaper options (preferably keeping the domain name) - anybody please?

He has confirmed it is a .uk, he currently has a website which is little used and could be dropped. I've suggested he asks ionos how much it would be without the website hosting.

Hi jelv

I wouldn’t normally suggest this, but if he’s a personal friend, you could ask him to join kitz, make a donation to kitz and he could then take up the kitz offer

It would work out cheaper for him and help kitz at same time

As I say, the above is not an invitation to all to join for cheap hosting

Many thanks
