Query: OH Frame Errors & HEC Errors
« on: February 15, 2020, 02:49:52 AM »

Replying on behalf of neil . . .

He started a thread, "modem/router/PC MTU size", late last November (2019) and in Reply #10 posted the following --
out of topic question
can you please tell me, Are my stats normal OH frame errors, HEC errors? My modem uptime is 10 days here is screenshot

I would say that if those parameters are not rapidly increasing then do not be concerned by the reported values. Quite often it is the first derivative of the parameter (i.e. the rate of change of the parameter) that is more significant than the actual value at any one moment in time.

Are you observing any significant problems? Is the service operating correctly?

It's working fine. But these are new cables installed 3 years ago and I think running along same route as underground cable, but there is noise in phone line and stats are not as good as were with the underground cable and there was no noise with underground cable and I don't know when those cables were installed.

It appears that you are witnessing a change in the bulk shielding effect, by the move of circuit's pairs from being underground to being suspended aerially. Hopefully that change does not degrade the circuit's performance too much.

These 50 100 pair telephone cables are shielded like a coaxial cable? Today I saw them repairing telephone cable with butt connectors. And I think I have seen them before when msag was installed, they just remove metal outer part of the cable and work with pairs.

These 50 100 pair telephone cables are shielded like a coaxial cable?

Not to my knowledge, no. My comment about "a change in the bulk shielding effect" was related to the potential increase in RFI as a result of a previously buried cable being replaced by an aerially suspended cable.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you are trying to identify.  I've picked out some of the data from each of the 3 stats you supplied.

Sync   20423   8678
Max   60523   40527
SNRM   320   300

Sync   43537   26552
Max   58936   26552
SNRM   13.9   11.9

Sync   43537   20246
Max   61673   26407
SNRM   14.8   11.9

What speeds are you suuposed to be syncing at (I realise you are not UK based).  The line has spare SNRM and isnt syncing to full line rate.

Also I'd never expect the line to be as good as it was a few years ago before more lines joined the cab I'd expect you to be experiencing some sort of crosstalk from other lines

These speeds at which my line sync is the speed I subscribed, for example 15mb in the first post and 35mb in the other posts. + 2 3mb for iptv if you are subscribed. Here is the snr bit line graph comparison between underground cable and aerial cable.

And one more thing I failed to mention is that when you get a visit from a lineman or you visit local exchange for line problems, they will look at only your line SNR and say SNR are low, your line can't support it. They will say your SNR needs to be above 30bd
But I have seen here in this forum people with SNR value as low as 6db 5db but still have stable connections and more than 50mb speeds.
And I don't get it why
