Satellite gazing
« on: February 12, 2020, 09:26:26 AM »

So this morning I went outside and saw something pretty amazing, with the aid of this site:

https://james.darpinian.com/satellites/?special=starlink

I was able to tell when the latest bunch of Elon's starlink sats would be coming over in close formation and illuminated in the astronomical twilight.

It is a real sight to watch 31 objects fly across the sky in an arc with 4-5 visible at once, with the naked eye, as bright as stars.

I'll leave discussions of the merits of thousands of LEO sats for supplying internet to every corner of the planet for others, but jebus it was a spectacle. If you are the kind up at 6am I highly recommend trying to catch it.

Gosh I hadn't realised there were quite so many visible to the naked eye.

I've seen the ISS a few times with the aid of their tracker.
