VMG1312-B10A Johnson's CFW
« on: February 17, 2020, 10:32:42 AM »

So i decided to put @johnson Fiirmware on my VMG1312-B10A just to test the new adsl_phy.bin i used he's new latest one which was posted 16hrs ago "1312-B10A-17-jumbo-tel-x6-stats1.1-cmd.bin" and my god it's incredible i literally gained a extra 2mb on my downstream. The only downside which i don't think is a downside my Attenuation increased from 12.5 to 12.8 anyone know why?

I found that Zyxel's one was buggy thank you Johnson you the man  ;D I hope you continue to add more upcoming adsl_phy.bin

Attenuation is an estimate only, its normal for it to fluctuate between resyncs.

Yup, my line attenuation dropped from 5.4 to 4.3 after power cut next the next resync. it will rise again to 5.4 I used to it though I do not know why it fluctuate with a big difference!!

Fiind it strange that it flucturates a lot i always thought attenuation is how far you are from the exchange? Unless the exchange is constantly on the move.  :D

 But in our case as we both are have FTTC, the cabinet would be the moving thing.  :D

The actual attenuation does vary seasonally and with temperatue but with a the same modem and firmware anything other than a small change usually means a change in the line.

However different modems and firmwares do give varying values which are just due how the modem deals with the dsl signal.  I also found the "x6" firmware gives a higher attenuation but for me a smaller increase in sync of about 0.3Mb/s.

Thanks for that les that's good to know im not the only one but i'll keep this CFW on here cause it's amazing. Especially when it comes to the ES & FEC Errors on the line before i was getting so many errors with Zyxel's default v17 FW then once i swiitched to Johnson's x6 CFW the ES & FEC's have suddenly slowed down.

Attenuation is resistance in the line so yeah, even a small change in temperature causes it to shift.  Plus there will always be a margin of error in the detection system, its been suggested some modems utterly fail to detect it properly.

Ah i see it's been freezing cold lately so maybe that's something to do with it. Because don't qoute me on it if there's a shift in tempurature copper can expand and make it look longer than it already is? Not sure if i'm correct or not so correct me if i'm mistaken.
