Getting stats from modem via wifi
« on: February 10, 2020, 11:09:57 PM »

Currently my modem VMG1312-B10A is downstairs and router upstairs. They are linked with one ethernet cable and the modem in bridge mode is at 192.168.2.10. I am logging DSLStats on via telnet and wifi on my PC upstairs also next to router. I have set the wifi adapter to 192.168.2.100 in order for DSLStats to see the modem and telnet in.

Every now and again DSLStats will display the broken connection link, and checking the log it usually says "unable to login to modem" then after about 5 mins resumes collecting data.

Also my router an ASUS-DSL-N55U is set to use LAN 4 as a WAN port with the switch port LAN 4 being set at 192.168.2.9 so I can get stats down the single ethernet cable.

It seems to be using the wifi route to collect stats and not falling back to the single cable on the router. What gives?

Apologies for being off topic : I strongly recommend our own kitizen Johnson’s firmware for ZyXEL modems this VMG 1312 B10A included. It provides stats graphs of SNRM vs time as web pages supplied over http, and also an http-based service that delivers raw Broadcom stats delivery service over http, so no apologies required but dsl stats would still be usable just the same. The firmware was originally built to enable the use of IP MTU 1500 ( PPP MTU 1508=1500+8 ). The firmware might be of interest to you.

Interesting although I am on a talk talk biz line with MTU of 1492. Although the multiple telnet sessions is of interest.
