What's the best firmware for VMG8924-B10A
« on: February 01, 2020, 10:13:05 PM »

Having bricked my VMG3925-B10B I have picked up a VMG8924-B10A on ebay. I have asked the seller what firmware it is currently using and it appears to V.10 John Lewis firmware.

In advance I have downloaded all the 8924 firmwares from the ZyXel ftp site. Which is the best firmware to use, the latest v28 I presume or does anyone else have a better idea?

Also how easy is it to find the supervisor password from v.28 as I assume it will be randomised when I upgrade from the John Lewise V.10 firmware?

Many thanks for that, looks simple enough go to V.20 and use dumpmdm then upgrade to v.28 see if the password has changed if it has downgrade to v.20 to use dumpmdm again.

One of the commands I  posted should allow you to get the new password if it changes no need to downgrade.  I think someone posted after me with what worked for them after they upgraded.

Ahh yes I see your post later on. De-branding is as simple as logging on with supervisor and clearing the rom-d if the page is available I think. I will know more next week when it arrives.

So I am now using a vanilla VMG8924-B10A as a WAP ac1300. Finding the supervisor as detailed later in the linked thread was fairly straight forward and disabled TR069.
