When I did my eci I cleaned holes completely (if you got tools and good solder there is no problem with that), fitted header pin, and soldered to pcb, literally 5 mins. I took longer for me open eci modem first time than solder header pins. Binary modem is included in chaos calmer, for openwrt you can copy it on modem once openwrt is installed, so that shouldn't be a problem.
