SET UP SNR Margin with telnet on BIPAC 5200S
« on: July 12, 2008, 01:15:41 PM »

Hi! Excuse me for may English, i have problemwith my connection! When the modem connect whit OVER interleaved channel bit rate: 2000 kb downstream I Have snr margin 6-7 db and so I can't navigate! but when the modem connect to 1500 kb I have a snr margin of 10-12db and so I can navigate, I know that some router modem (Netgear 834G) can setup the snr margin from TELNET! Can I do this with TELNET on my BIPAC 5200S?
THANK YOU!

Hi and welcome.

I don't think that this is possible. I use a Bipac 5200G, and I haven't found any telnet command which will change the target noise margin.

But I don't really understand why this is a problem for you. The connection should work normally if you connect at 2000 kbps and a 6 dB noise margin. Why can't you navigate?

You don't need to apologise for your English. Your English is fine. :)

Thank you for your reply!
But I can't navigate when the portant is over 2000 kbps and snr margin 6 db and line attenuation 50 db!
but when the modem connect to portant at 1500 kbps the snr margin is 10-12 db and line attenuation 42 db, is there a way to block the portant to 1500?
I know that the netgear 854g can do this with telnet or with DMT (DSL MODEM TOOL)

Thanks at all!

I'm afraid that I still don't understand why you can't use 2000 kbps with 6 dB margin. But anyway, I don't believe that it is possible to do what you want with the 5200S unfortunately. If you must have the lower speed and higher noise margin, then I think that your only option is to use a different router which does work with DMT.

Just to point out that its only the DG834G v4 that you can do this with.
Previous versions ( DG834G v1, v2, v3) cant.
