G.fast with Green ISP
« on: December 12, 2019, 07:45:08 PM »

[Moderator note: All posts that were off-topic have been split off and can now be found as "[Split From] G.fast with Green ISP" in "Tech Chat".]

Engineer came this morning to install new line for G.fast. At the moment using Openreach modem with green isp for the first ten days of training period then will take it off and try Zyxel router with the correct settings (this router still active with Plusnet FTTC 80/20). Engineer say line max for g.fast is 240/50. :)

The 10 day training period is a myth.

Stick your telephone number in here - http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ and see if there is a max observed value for g.fast yet. Expect to get about 10-15mb less in terms of sync than the max value for downstream, but upstream is pretty spot on in my experience.

For example, my max observed is 269.72 and I am synced at 258.22 according to the Zen portal (my only method of getting this info) which gives a maximum download speed of 249943Kbps

Also, mouselike mis-reports your expected upload speed - you won't be uploading at 50mb. It also thinks mine is 50mb, but most i've ever synced at is 38

I'm confused, one minute you've renewed with Plusnet, next minute you've ordered Virgin Media and now you're on g.FAST with some ISP we've never heard of before?

My plusnet FTTC still free (back to billing errors issues again so I keep that as it free at the moment as the renewal contract has been written off)

I didn't order it as I was thinking it over but decided go for G.fast instead.

If this is real, then those aren't bad results considering your original estimates. It even beats the prediction I made for downstream a while back when I said I reckon it would be 200 Mbps (+/- 20 Mbps, I think). And hey, the upstream is solid it seems.

Those figures should not change too much when/if there are more subscribers since the connection is vectored. There may be small fluctuations, but it is looking good.

Edit: I think my predications came before the Band Plan changes.

Not everything is bad in G.fast land. Though I am personally thinking about downgrading to 160/30 at the end of my 12 month term.

Yes, that's what I am thinking as well. But they can downgraded me but BTw will charged fee for that and will change to 160/30 with a new 12 months contract will apply too.

Thanks but I don't need that speed - will downgraded to 160/30 soon and stay with it and would save lots cheaper than higher product 330/50  ;D

I have contract green isp to downgrade to 160/30 but they say no. Must wait until my 12 months contract has expired then can downgraded to 160/30 for my G.fast to save extra money. I think 217Meg down with 50Meg isn't worth the money but 160/30 will do. I do regret shouldn't have ordered 330/50 in the first place cos it won't let me downgrade to 160/30.
