G.Fast Installed
« on: December 03, 2019, 10:48:18 AM »

Split from topic G.Fast - Band Plan Changes? - roseway

Just had G.Fast installed here; PCP is around 100-150m away via how I suspect the cable is run and have the following;

Code: [Select]
Data rate:29.399 Mbps / 159.443 Mbps
Maximum data rate:74.580 Mbps / 397.693 Mbps
Noise margin:20.9 / 19.6
Line attenuation:0.0 / 26.7
Signal attenuation:0.0 / 26.7

Unfortunately just BT smart hub to give stats but I'm quite impressed so far, especially with the maximum upload speed that seems possible!

For comparison here were my old VDSL stats (note the Huawei cabinet is on the other side of the street from the PCP and further away).

@bkehoe this noise margin: 20.9 / 19.6 are plenty of headroom for your next upgrading to 330/30 pretty easily. But, for 160/30 as it will remain there for a very long time with no issues.

Your (top) compared to mine (bottom) for VDSL below:

VDSL Band Status        U0      U1      U2      U3      U4      D1      D2      D3

I would agree that there is almost no doubt that your connection would be capable of 330/50 Mbps. Your VDSL attenuation would suggest you are probably closer to 200m. Seems like a healthy connection.

Not to sound grumpy, but I would certainly appreciate it if this discussion was split off into its own topic since discussion has nothing to do with Band Plan changes but rather it is about your install.

Cheers.

Edit: This message existed before the topic split.

Yeah guys I'm aware I could have the higher package if I wished but I've no need for it; the purpose of my post was in case anyone wanted to compare VDSL stats in case they were considering upgrading as I hadn't seen many examples. And re0, yeah VDSL cabinet is further away than the PCP/GFast cabinet.

VDSL (maybe the last record I have):
Code: [Select]
Max:    Upstream rate = 27123 Kbps, Downstream rate = 84028 Kbps
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 19999 Kbps, Downstream rate = 80000 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
Link Power State:       L0
Mode:                   VDSL2 Annex B
VDSL2 Profile:          Profile 17a
TPS-TC:                 PTM Mode(0x0)
Trellis:                U:ON /D:ON
Line Status:            No Defect
Training Status:        Showtime
                Down            Up
SNR (dB):        6.5             15.5
Attn(dB):        9.5             0.0
Pwr(dBm):        13.2           -6.5

  VDSL Band Status U0 U1 U2 U3 U4 D1 D2 D3
  Line Attenuation(dB):  3.7     9.6     13.8     N/A     N/A    5.5     11.4    17.7
Signal Attenuation(dB):  3.7     9.1     12.9     N/A     N/A    6.5     11.3    17.7
SNR Margin(dB): 15.9 15.1 15.6   N/A   N/A 6.4 6.5 6.6
  TX Power(dBm): -21.0 -33.7 -6.7   N/A   N/A 10.0 7.7 7.0

Migrated to G.fast (current stats):
Code: [Select]
       xDSL Port Details       Upstream         Downstream
Line Rate:     50.345 Mbps      330.614 Mbps
Actual Net Data Rate:     50.016 Mbps      329.907 Mbps
          Trellis Coding:         ON                ON
SNR Margin:        9.0 dB            8.2 dB
Actual Delay:          0 ms              0 ms
Transmit Power:        4.1 dBm           0.0 dBm
Receive Power:        4.7 dBm           3.0 dBm
Actual INP:      535.0 symbols     550.0 symbols
Attainable Net Data Rate:     67.552 Mbps      406.832 Mbps
The estimates for both connections were around 200m, within a margin of about 10-20m.

And re0, yeah VDSL cabinet is further away than the PCP/GFast cabinet.
Would make sense then. :) Both VDSL cabinet and PCP are within close proximity in my case.
