VDSL router/modem that does WAN IP passthrough (Half-bridge)
« on: November 30, 2019, 10:29:36 PM »

Evening!

I have a bit of a specific question - I learned about the HG612 from here so I thought I might as well return. Essentially, I've had to go redundant on the internet connection owing to how much we rely on the internet round here. So one is a Virgin Media connection, the other is a Zen 40/10.

To cut a story short, I need a modem which will handle the PPPoE side of things, and pass through the WAN IP address (single IPv4 and v6) so that my firewall can pick up this WAN IP via DHCP. I'm getting a firewall from work (model yet unknown, probs Aruba) but it DOESN'T handle PPPoE so this needs to be done on the modem.

Currently looking at a Draytek 2762 - the international Vigor 130 do this, but the UK one is has this disabled. Anyone have one of these and/or has had to something similar, and can recommend hardware?

Thanks!

edit: forgot to mention I believe the technical term is 'half bridging'

Hi

We use drayteks (not your listed versions though)

You could either put Draytek in dmz or route all wan through to your firewall

This though would mostly mean double Nat but it’s no issue

You could use any modem/router with same result

The draytek firewalls are very good so not sure why you need a different firewall

Many thanks
