Pfsense - access Draytek Vigor 130 GUI
« on: November 16, 2019, 02:51:52 AM »

Got another Pfsense question. Had to go back to using a Draytek Vigor 130 instead of the Zyxel I was using. The Zyxel seemed to be producing a lot of errors for some reason (before I'd noticed). Result being that DLM intervened early hours of Friday morning.

Anyway, I'd like to be able to access the GUI of the Draytek. I've tried to follow this guide: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/interfaces/accessing-modem-from-inside-firewall.html, but I'm getting stuck where it's saying assign the OPT interface to the same physical network card as the WAN interface. If I do that, there's just a message about 2 interfaces on 1 and then doesn't allow me to. I'm probably missing something obvious.

Edit:

WAN is on igb0
LAN is on igb1
MODEMACCESS (OPT1) is on igb2

If I try to assign MODEMACCESS to igb0, that's when it comes up with:
Quote
The following input errors were detected:

Port igb0 was assigned to 2 interfaces: WAN (WAN) MODEMACCESS (OPT1)

I have Pfsense with a Virgin Media hub in modem mode, which is on 192.168.100.1 a different subnet than my main network, sometimes I can access the modem interface, another time I can't. Unfortunately I've no idea why, but would like it to work all the time.

PS. I'll give that guide you posted a try and see what happens.

Annoying thing is, I’m sure I’ve set this up before but can’t remember how lol. Sure I saved the config as well but can’t find it.

My pfSense router has two modems and I remember having load of trouble getting access to work via my LAN.  Eventually I got it up and running by going into the modem UI setting them up on the two alternative IP ranges i.e.

Modem 1 on 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
Modem 2 on 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
(My LAN is on 192.186.X.X)

I then have each modem interface in my pfSense router on a static IPv4 address in the range shown, so I can type 172.16.0.2 or 10.0.0.2 into a browser and I get the modem WebUI, it may not be the best way of doing it but it definitely works.

Good luck!

Thanks Chunkers, my network is on 192.168.0.x, whilst the modem is 192.168.100.1.

I'll try adding it as a static IP address and see what happens.

I’ve gone back to using a ASUS router. One script added that loads at startup and I can access the modem GUI. Bit annoying as I wanted to use Pfsense but didn’t seem to be an easy way of doing it.

I tried to add it as a static ip, but without knowing its mac address I can't do that.

The weird thing is, I could not access the modern from my main PC, but another one on the same network I could but was unable to log in.

Well pfSense won't let me add a static mapping, it says the IP address must lie in the LAN subnet.
