Sudden Drop in Speed Stats Included
« on: November 16, 2019, 10:04:37 AM »

BB has been fine for well over a year, but for the last 2 weeks the connection felt slow, so run a speed test. Getting 65Mb Down 19Mb Up. I was Getting 79Mb Down due to being close to local Cab.
Anything look off from the stats listed below?
Thanks

Stats look fine from a glance (I presume the SNRM for DS is the second figure unless it has flipped, but both are okay anyway) - you are sync'd at the maximum speed possible with an overhead of about 10 Mbps.

The question is here where are you running the speedtest? Have you tried different hosts, browsers, devices? Is there anybody else using the connection?

Please run a BT Wholesale speedtest and do further diagnostics for your line - doing further diagnostics will show your IP profile. Please post what your IP profile is here.

Your IP profile appears to be ~88% of your sync rate. Perhaps the DLM has enabled INPRein (also known as ReTX) on the downstream. I was under the impression that ReTX would be ~91%, but it is not too far off. Unfortunately, you need a modem that provides in-depth stats to be sure.

I need a second opinion here because I am not sure about the 88%. One way to give an indication would be to disconnect the PPP session for no more than about 10-15 minutes (or switch off the router for a similar period of time if disconnection is not possible) and see if the IP profile changes.

Edit: fixed typo

I'm in a similar situation  the ip profile should be higher and there is no Valid reason or logic why it isn't  the throughput is a different layer to the physical side that dlm manages , BTW Bras servers are set incorrectly, I'm still waiting for my ISP ZEN  to get this sorted out  they after trying to use the figures they have from BTW in the portal  in a way to somehow claim the ip profile was correct,
Ie that the sync rate in the portal was correct when it isn't it's infact nearly 8mbps less than what my modem is showing, The latest  suggestion was  asking if i had a spare modem/router i could try before they went back to bt,  they claim bt had "recalculated the BRAS" mmm??? Is this another way of saying rebuilding the IP profile , if the problem is with the way that BTW systems are interpreting the data from Openreach  then they need to fix this because there is no way they should be setting IP bras profiles to 88%  hows about we pay 88% of our subs.?

That's not quite correct with G.INP retransmission. Retransmitting data occupies some of the line's capacity for carrying data, more retransmission results in lower throughput. There's probably an allowance for the expected loss of throughput from the expected amount of retransmission.

But it shouldn't be so low, if i was GEA (non wholesale) there would be no ip profile restricting my throughput, only overheads  so i would be seeing around 73-73.5mbps not 68mbps, G.inp has been active on my line for years  and throughput has never been so low on the max sync rate for the product, the inp rein level has not increased either  this is BTW nonsense
