« on: November 12, 2019, 10:05:12 PM »

This has just appeared on offer as an optional update.

Advantages? Potential issues?

Mainly bug fixes and security. Couple of new features but nothing major and a quick update. All my machines now on 1909. https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/142310-what-new-windows-10-version-1909-a.html

Updated a couple of machines. No problems. As banger writes, nothing major in the way of changes and quick to upgrade (if you were fairly up to date with 1903).

Two done, one to go - no issues and a lot, lot quicker than usual.

I got offered it when the device is set to defer feature updates for 180 days, I hope Microsoft are not been naughty again not honouring defer settings.  Dont want to be a beta tester. ;)

I believe this update adds the new reptoline stuff, which is basically a much better performing form of spectre mitigation.  Unless Microsoft backed it out, then that should be a nice addition.

Not sure what your issue is here. You can ignore the offer for 180 days.

Could be true, my laptop did feel slightly more responsive after the update but I assumed it was imagining it.  Its hard to tell as my laptop has a 120Hz screen when my desktop is only 60Hz, so it ALWAYS feels faster.

The issue is defer is supposed to prevent it even been offered.

Prompted by recent issues I have been experiencing with MS Office Pro + 2016 over the last week, I believe since the last Windows update to my then current version 1809, all Office app's. unable to open, package had to be "on line" repaired and re-registered, I have bit the bullet and upgraded to Win. V.1909 in the hope that will address the MS Office issues.
Always suspicious of MS Win updates unwanted bi-products which MS very rarely admit to !

Since a previous bad experience with V.1903 I had opted out of any Win feature upgrades.

Certainly was not a quick process on either my Ryzen-5 or my dual boot, Win10/Linux Mint i5 PC's, took close to 2 hours each, to expectation I suppose as I had skipped V.1903 previously.

Both PC's currently appear perfectly stable under V.1909, hoping that my MS Office issue will also be cured on the Ryzen-5 PC, had occured twice in the last week running V.1809, time will tell.

Edit:
Typo correction.

After a few days usage on Win 10 V.1909 all appears well, no re-appearance to date of the recent issue I had been experiencing with MS Office Pro + 2016 applications not opening and requiring on-line repair to re-instate, I had attributed this to the previous Win 10 update to my then V.1809 system.

I also had a very long standing issue, described in detail in this link:

Win 10 V.1809 Network Does Not Show Computers

Apart from adopting the suggestions advised and fitting an additional Intel NIC, in my case I had to disable "fast start-up" to ensure network connection on every startup.

With V.1909 I have now re-enabled "fast start-up" without any issues with network connection or display.
Have still kept the Task Scheduler routines active as described in the link as I don't believe they will have a big impact on booting, others are reporting that they are still required with V.1909 to avoid the explorer network device visibility issue.

Only way I could update from 1803 was to copy the media folder from C:/$Getcurrent copy it back when it failed and run the install manually
