ZyXEL VMG8324-B10A BT Settings for FTTP
« on: October 13, 2019, 09:59:59 PM »

Hi,

First time using this so go easy if this is sounds a bit dumb..... :)

I have an ex-John Lewis VMG8324-B10A that I would like to use it on my BT FTTP service as it has a number of features I want that the Homehub doesn't.

I would like to debrand it but couldn't get supervisor access using the supervisor/zyad1234 combination, this didn't altogether surprise me as I gathered from a few similar threads on here that Zxyel had changed the supervisor/password combination to something a lot more esoteric.

I have managed to flash the firmware to v28 and found this thread that advises on suitable settings for BT Infinity: https://kitz.co.uk/routers/zyxel_VMG8324-B10A_vdsl_setup.htm

This didn't work for me though, partly I'm guessing because it's FTTP and also because their is no password for the account on BT and the VMG8324-B10A doesn't accept a blank entry in this field.

So,
Has anyone got this to work with a FTTP account and if so could you share the settings?
How would I get around the issue of the VMG8324-B10A not accepting a blank entry for the password?

Thanks  in advance for any help  :)

Welcome to the Kitz forum.  :)

Although it is always preferable to de-brand and revert back to a vanilla ZyXEL device there is no fundamental reason why it would not be usable, as long as the basic functions are configurable.

I would suggest performing a "long" reset* to ensure the device is in a known state. Now enable the fourth LAN port as the EWAN port and configure the WAN interface as PPPoE.

Regarding the "no password" problem, have you tried just entering one space character as the password?

*Press and hold the reset button for 20 - 30 seconds, then release the button and leave the device alone for, say, five minutes.

PPPoE
username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com
password: BT

FTTC and FTTP login settings are the same.

Connect the ONT to the blue WAN port.
Make sure the WAN port isn't designated as an Ethernet port in the settings.
