BTW major outage ?
« on: October 09, 2019, 11:29:36 AM »

AA told me that there was a major BTW outage just after 01:00 UTC (02:00 BST). … “a few thousand broadband lines dropped.

See: https://aastatus.net/32121

All my lines started dropping packets for around 15 mins at around 01:11 UTC.

Anyone have a problem with ISPs other than AA, not just AA themselves?

A large number of AA users will be using TalkTalk instead of BTW for backhaul anyway so this might very well not apply to them and I wouldn’t be surprised if at least half of the AA users say ‘what problem?’.

By the way, what’s a “B-side” ?

Putting the "B-side" back into context --

Quote from: Stuart@AA
After some investigation it appears the drops occurred due to all the B-sides of our BTW hostlinks flapping causing all sessions over these links to re-establish

I wouldn't like to guess.  :shrug2:

AAISP Incidents: [MSO] Broadband: BT Hostlink Blip (B-Side)
[MSO] Broadband: BT Hostlink Blip (B-Side)
Posted: 09 Oct 2019 01:11 AM PDT
Started: 2019-10-09 02:11:00

On 09/10/19 at 02:11 our monitoring picked up that a few thousand broadband lines dropped. After some investigation it appears the drops occurred due to all the B-sides of our BTW hostlinks flapping causing all sessions over these links to re-establish. Lines did immediately start to reconnect over our other hostlinks; however due to the number of attempted re-connections in some cases it took ~30minutes for lines reconnect. We are not aware of any BTW planned works scheduled for this time and are currently chasing BT for an explanation for this blip

Update 9 Oct 2019 09:10:28
We have contacted BTW and they state that they are not aware of what caused this blip however they have had other reports from other customers reporting the same issue. As such an issue raised and a RFO has been raised with their TSO team to investigate. RFO investigations last for up to 5 days. We will update this status as and when we recieve [sic] any further information.

Update expected: 2019-10-16 09:54:00

Any idea what these initialisms mean:
  • RFO = request for ??
  • TSO = ??

I find https://www.acronymfinder.com/ quite useful, although it does produce large numbers of results for most abbreviations.

RFO could be Reason for Outage ?

I noticed that it says “they have had other reports from other customers reporting the same issue”. So I wonder if other kitizens might have seen this. I didn’t notice the outage until I looked back just after it had passed, because I don’t have an notification SMS set up to go to me and AA’s Tweet mechanism isn’t working still, for some unknown reason. So because I was too late, I missed the opportunity of getting a geographical picture of (AA’s view of) the outage via the blip map called ‘storms’ at clueless.aa.net.uk.

Weaver you can get this info via email, I subscribed to it on aaisp's status page it uses the feedproxy google service.

I am on TTB so doesnt affect me :p, I also been keeping an eye on aaisp's congestion detection here.

https://control.aa.net.uk/congestion.cgi

Interestingly so far only seen BT 21CN, no TTB listed on that page as of yet.

Yeah I've worked in telecoms for a long time and never seen TSO before. RFO a lot - guessing TSO is one BT use more often than not?

TSO is not an action, dee.jay .... they are a business unit within BT.  :)
