AA outage Thu morning, 2019-03-21T11:21
« on: March 21, 2019, 07:15:22 PM »

See https://aastatus.net/28972

Has anyone else experienced this? All my four bonded DSL links were down in the sense that clueless.aa.net.uk showed loss of replies from CQM pIng-link PPP LCP echo requests. Outage for 23 mins.

I don’t know exactly what happened at my end as I can’t see anything useful in my router’s logs. Can’t tell whether DSL itself went down, or PPP, or whether the problem was further upstream.

I have 3G failover set up in my Firebrick router so that it will switch to a 3G link if all the dsl links drop in the sense of the Firebrick seeing PPPoE going down on all lines simultaneously. I cannot see any traffic going over the 3G link during the outage. I was probably asleep at the time and there was no one else around, so it is just possible that there actually was no traffic to see. Otherwise it could be that failover didn’t happen and it might be that the Firebrick didn’t know there was a problem.

Same here. Don’t know the root cause, but observed that the vdsl link was still active, but no PPPoE to AA. However, according to my router’s status page I did have a connection. The WAN IP address was a 172. private address and the DNS addresses looked to be quite random. Eventually cleared, but Firefox became quite excited during the outage, issuing many warnings of impending catastrophe if I proceeded!

I'm using a ZyXel VMG8924-B10A in full modem/router mode. I am currently experiencing quite serious SHINE episodes and decided to cease my second line to half the pain, so have retired the Firebrick for the moment. I'm currently enjoying the simplicity of the one-box setup and hoping the long-standing rumours of FTTP for the village do come true!  :fingers:
