AA KCI Tweets
« on: October 09, 2019, 11:20:24 AM »

I’m not getting Tweets from AA about KCI events eg line down/up. It has been broken for a long time now. Is it just me or is anyone else getting them? (You have to do -something- in Twitter to set it up, I seem to recall. And there are options in clueless.aa.net.uk to control the feature. )

Is everyone else having the same problem with Tweets?

Aside from that, I missed an SMS about a line going down just now. Even if my wife’s phone was out of coverage the SMS should turn up at some point soon surely?

The settings with respect to SMS were:
    Unexpected: 8am-10pm ; Normal : never.
However I realise that I have no idea what ‘normal’ and ‘unexpected‘ mean. If I turn a modem off, does last gasp detection make that a ‘normal’? A power cut is certainly ‘unexpected’ so can not assume that power loss is user-initiated or admin-initiated. And if a modem decides that it needs to do a retrain, what is that? Is that unexpected? Hope so.

Anyway, I can’t see how that was ‘normal’ in this particular case, because the line went bad.

I think you will need the input from a fellow A&A-er as to "what's what".

no idea I dont use twitter for notifications, I use their email alert system.

Also I dont think I have the sms notifications enabled but is a good idea to I think for line alerts.

normal probably means planned maintenance and manual kill in control panel, unexpected everything else.

I have SMS alerts.  There's a bit of odd behaviour, SMS alerts are "muted" overnight, but then sent in the morning.  Looking back on my phone I see messages received at 09:00 alerting me to a line up at for example 02:17.

I'm not getting the tweets either. I contacted them about this nearly a year ago and they said that it's an issue that needs fixing.

You have to follow https://twitter.com/aaisp

The time periods for when you receive KCI SMS messages are set in the login details of the control panel.

I think the message for the 2:17 outage was a major outage and hence deferred.

Cheers.  What I actually meant was that I expected disabling SMS overnight to actually disable it.  It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense sending the alert hours after the event.

@jelv I remember now about following AA in Twitter. And I do. Perhaps I should unfollow them and then follow them. That might fix it?

According to jelv it is indeed broken and has been for over a year.

If you click on your account name in clueless.aa.net.uk main page - to the left at the top, to the left of the column of ‘lines’ - then you get a page with these options about notifications plus your own user info about your account, contact details for you etc

Fixing this is on the list, but has been a bit of a lower priority - sorry.... I'll get it pushed up the queue.
