Line 4 downstream sync rate droop
« on: October 05, 2019, 05:16:18 AM »

Suddenly line 4’s downstream sync rate has dropped by about 0.5Mbps, from 2.8 to 2.3 Mbps, and the modems dropped the connection. Can you help me see what’s going wrong with it here?

Line 4 latest summary stats today are included below. The link dropped, and following this, the downstream sync rate was as low as ~1.8Mbps with a downstream SNRM of ~5dB. I reset the SNRM to the 3dB which is usual for the link and forced a retrain, which brought the downstream sync rate up to 2.3Mbps as seen in the stats immediately below.

Also, attached - full stats for all lines :
  • “2019-10-05 all modems stats.zip” : today’s all-lines’ raw complete stats, plain text, zipped up
  • “2019-07-25*.txt.zip” -  an earlier all-lines dataset is attached also for comparison.

History of SNRM through the day up to the drop of the link and resetting of downstream SNRM. Red, the lower trace, is downstream :

Line dropped again around mid-day today, sync rate remained the same.

I tried to perform a copper line test on clueless.aa.net.uk; got an error - Any idea what this means ?

Two ZIP format files have been sent to you as attachments to an e-mail message.

I presume the "Downstream system not available" refers to a BT Wholesale system that is downstream from A&A and, as it was unavailable for A&A to use, the test could not be performed.

Seems that the lightning repairs have cured the downstream ~20% speed droop anyway, as this morning the downstream speed is back up to ~2.8 Mbps where it should be. In fact - Live sync rates:
  #1: down 2990 kbps, up 560 kbps
  #2: down 2880 kbps, up 547 kbps
  #3: down 2998 kbps, up 512 kbps
  #4: down 2799 kbps, up 502 kbps

And line 3 upstream is cured.

That's good to know.

The line 3 upstream thing has been going on and on - for at least ten months, maybe a lot longer, I’d have to look back. It’s been such a complete pain.

Yet no matter what I do, I cannot get the combined upstream speed tester figure back to 1.5 Mbps+ as it should be. Will have to do some more testing now things are improved.
