A little info on the local rollout which covers much of the ESDAL exchange area.

Virgin Media dipped their toe in this area a couple years ago with a rollout to Loadhead, Lasswade and Bonnyrigg.
They completed the nearby town of Danderhall earlier this year.

A couple months ago they popped up on roadworks.org in the Dalkeith area and work has begun and other local areas have been added to the roadworks schedule, including my own street.

I pass by much of this work daily going to/from work and they've been going at a very quick pace.

Currently plans are to cover the following areas as part of this build.

Dalkeith - only a few streets around the old Dalkeith High School site, much of the work is complete.

Woodburn - most is being done up to and including Woodburn View. Work nearly complete. The very top of Woodburn isn't marked as being done yet.

Kippielaw - Work should be underway. I believe they are covering the entire estate.

Wester Kippielaw (St David's Primary school development) - added to roadworks last week. Work due to commence around Dec/Jan.
Out of the thousands and thousands of private homes in multiple developments built in the area in the last decade this is the only 1 that Virgin have marked as being done.

Easthouses - Looks like the whole lot being done. Originally just the older section of mining cottages being done (nearly complete) but other end now added (November onwards).

Mayfield - Only parts. From Langlaw to David Scott Avenue. Along Bogwood Road and ending at Mayfield Roundabout. Work is well underway.

I would hope to see more of Dalkeith being covered, and perhaps extending on to Newtongrange and maybe Gorebridge after that

Very pleased to see this as OpenReach FTTC is the only option in this area.
A very tiny amount of OpenReach FTTP on the very last phase of 1 of the local private developments but apart from that this is the only FTTP in the area.

*While most addresses in Edinburgh actually have Midlothian in their address most of that is under Edinburgh City Council.
I'm specifically referring to areas within Midlothian council which had zero Virgin Media coverage a couple years ago.

I woke up on Friday morning to my driveway blocked (with my car in it) and a leaflet in the letterbox explaining about the works.

The contractors digging the pavements couldn't have been any nicer and were very willing to lay ramps and move the barriers to aid me exiting my driveway.

My only complaint would be they should have posted these leaflets before the day the work started.
Roadworks website stated September to January so I can hardly leave the car out my driveway that entire time  ::)

All covered with tarmac and left very neat by the end of today.

Can't device what package I'm going to order. Even the slowest package Virgin offer beats my 44/7 sync via FTTC.

A week after Virgin tar over the pavement.... OpenReach are rodding our ducts in preparation for FTTP  :o

More FTTP over build but I'm not complaining!

Haven't had much time to post on the forums recently I've been very busy with work.

Had both a chap at the door and a phone call from a Virgin today. My property is live to order despite them still digging the other side of the street.

Ordered 100Mb broadband and a SIM with 15GB/month (unlimited calls/txts) for £30 a month.
They are also paying off my Plusnet contract which doesn't expire till April.

I've no need for 200Mb or 350Mb right now and may upgrade later if needed.

Coincidentally there was a "Light Source (working on behalf of OpenReach)" van in the street this morning.
Spoke to the guys in the van and OpenReach FTTP is also definitely coming to our area.
They are doing the spine works right now.
It's more expensive and I don't want to wait any longer so giving Virgin a go.

Install date of 13th December.
