Phone Line Signal Boosters.
« on: November 16, 2006, 01:08:55 AM »

Hello .

This will tax your grey mater !.
So I live about 3.5kl from the exchange with plenty of line losses Etc., so I was thinking is there any way to boost the signal from my phone line before it goes into my router ?.and hence improve my up and download speeds.
Maybe a 'bi-directional amplifier' to boost the gain ?.
Has it been tried ?
Is it worth trying?.
Will it work.?
There seems to be similar 'black box's' in the USA for cable internet !.

I don't think so. As far as I know, those signal boosters are for voice signals only. They have the same effect as getting BT to increase the gain of your line, which does nothing for ADSL.

Besides, any form of amplifier (which is what a signal booster is) will also boost the noise level too, and introduce some of its own.  So it would actually make the overall signal worse rather than better.
