Docsis 3.1 looking good
« on: October 07, 2019, 09:57:09 PM »

I just found this video of a guy using the Cox ISP network (I think thats either in the US or Canada) using a DOCSIS 3.1 connection.

It looks like a pretty good connection.

This is 2 years old. But its the first video I've seen of a working DOCSIS 3.1 connection. If anyone knows of any other videos I think they would be interesting to watch.

Shame about the really low upload speed in comparison to the download.

I suspect that it will be an issue until DOCSIS 3.1 moves to full duplex, which I think they will hold off until full fibre does something similar.

It always seems to be a case of who will blink first before network builders upgrade. We have CityFibre to thank for causing both OR and VM to blink and start the speed race.

If be amazed if Virgin went full duplex 3.1

Much more likely to switch to a PON system for those with FTTP.
Possibly EPON given their previous trials.
