Donkey singing
« on: September 22, 2019, 10:15:53 AM »

Janet is singing loudly just now to the donkeys in order to make them sing too, as a demonstration for a visitor. Only George ever brays, he always wants to sing along. It doesn’t matter what is sung to them, the theme tune to Startrek acts as a good vocalise, but Janet’s repertoire is vast.

Gilbert does not bray, but he often ‘woofles’ or whimpers when he really wants something and is frustrated. He nipped janet’s Finger last week because she wasn’t giving him his food fast enough, so she gave him a tap to teach him a lesson. Janet has been kicked a few times recently too, for varied reasons. Sometimes just because they are getting boisterous. Visitors are educated in no uncertain terms about not getting near the back end of donkeys nor getting their fingers into donkeys’ teeth; like other equines they are to be fed things like pony nuts with the flat palm of the hand if not employing a container, which is a better strategy. Visitors and neighbours bring them treats including carrots of course. They do love oats and pony nuts.

They are extremely obsessed with food and get over excited about treats. They also are very much expecting supper at bedtime and because of the treats and overnight food supplies that they get then, sometimes bedtime cannot come soon enough. If they think bedtime has been forgotten then sometimes Georgie brays and they always kick the glass door at the main entrance to the house. This is heard loudly and worries Janet for fear they may break it.
