So, I've realised I never actually posted an intro in here, so why not.

I'm an Infrastructure Engineer by trade, covering Networking mainly (Have predominantly been network engineering for 11+ years, am a CCIE). But as the Technical Lead for the team I am responsible for day to day running of all platforms so ESX, Networking, Servers, Storage etc. I was previously a Systems Administrator looking after Windows Servers (I'm also an MCSE in *cough* Windows 2003). Been formally in IT for 15 years, but my dad worked in IT and so I was lucky to get my hands on a BBC Micro at a very early age, and a 386 PC in about 1992, so my history is mostly based on early DOS/Windows 3.0 all the way to present day. Though in the last 10 years I've moved away from the server world - don't get me wrong, I am still handy at Active Directory, but there's swathes of things I probably don't know now. I do however enjoy learning and using Linux, have done so for a long time.

When I'm not working, I'm usually tinkering with something, from ESX lab to routing things, and finding interesting ways to connect things together and make things work. Outside of that I enjoy a lot of gaming, and cinema.

Dee.jay I used to work in r+d, for 16 years for a company called Psion. In the 1980s I worked first on games and then on stuff associated with Psion’s own o/s development, for their own new hardware products. All entirely asm to begin with, for four years, then switched to C. In 1998, I moved to Skye to study Scottish Gaelic full-time at smo.uhi.ac.uk, then, from 2002 until my health finally really completely fell apart in 2010-2011 in a big way, I was a self employed sys admin and security consultant for local customers.

ASM - Impressive!

I really need to up my programming game. I understand programming logic, just really need to hone a language. They say Python is a great language and I have dabbled a few times, but I jus need to get on and spend a lot more time with it. Cloud means that learning to automate through scripting/coding is a necessity these days.

Security I find fascinating too - I work for a cyber security company, so am in the right place to learn a lot of stuff.
