Janet tells me that he’ll is breaking out in England / Wales ? Ireland ? Southern Scotland maybe? Are you getting rain / lightning / wind ?

Janet said Edinburgh Airport’s access road was flooded.

Xcweather showed that there is a low centred roughly on Connacht / Gaillimh on the west coast of Ireland.

It's quite overcast, here in East Anglia, and the wind has been blowing strongly. There has been a few sharp showers but nothing to cause any flooding.

Plagues of frogs and locusts -- currently none.

No plagues of locusts, but power cuts earlier on today?

There has been no power cut in East Anglia.

Being sufficiently east and north of the Thames estuary, we are not part of the "south-east" area of England.

Not a breath of wind outside, Thames Valley.  There was a light rain shower in the afternoon.   The power has not  gone off today, not even momentarily.

To put the power cuts in context, BBC headline story reported “nearly a million people affected”.   UK population was circa 60 million  last time I checked, thus an alternative headline would have been...

“over 98% of people unaffected by the BBC’s lead story”. ::)

No problems here near Ashford in Kent. I think "South east England" in the context of yesterday's power cuts really meant the London area. Today it's windy and drizzly, but nothing extreme.

The problem with numbers in headlines is that one doesn't know what they're including. The outage affected much more than locally. Electric Trains in and out of London termini were stopped. That affects much more than the London commuter belt.

A dummy run for post Brexit maybe? :-\ :D

I wanted to check the actual weather stats, in case I’d just not noticed the wind, using a link I have bookmarked to the Met Office past 24 hours for an observation site near me.   The website was down:

That was from a page within www.metoffice.gov.uk.

Is that Dutch they chose as the second language? ‘Google translate’ thinks so.  I wonder, why Dutch?   The English is questionable too, I wonder which was really the first language?

Anyways it worked after a few refreshes, claims to have been gusting 30-40mph all night but I certainly never heard it.   The lawn is clear of debris from the trees, that I’d normally expect after a gusty night.

Edit: clarified source of the slightly odd ‘website down’ message.

It did in the end become very blowy indeed mid afternoon here.

Lot’s of debris on the lawn from the big trees.  And nerve racking to watch the smaller trees, that we’ve planted ourselves, swaying wildly and looking like they might snap their trunks.

But none of the little trees did snap.  And I suspect they have learned from the experience, next year’s trunks may well be sturdier at ground level. :)

Very wild, cold wind from the north, and sea haar coming down over the tops of the high moor from the Fireach Clach direction; the cold wind is forced from the inner sound and Broadford Bay up and over and down towards us. Mist surrounding everywhere here, Janet could not even see the top of Beinn nan Càrn.
