Firmware update on annex b modem for use in the UK
« on: July 30, 2019, 02:33:58 PM »

I have just received a draytek modem and it's Annex B which is not used in the UK. Before I send it back does anyone know if it's possible to just change the firmware to UK annex A for use on my line?

I'm not sure.

To be honest, is it worth the risk?

Just to clarify, you have been provided with a device that operates over ISDN, Annex B, (as in Germany) rather than a device that operates over POTS, Annex A, (as here in the UK)?

That is right mate

Don't really want to take it out of the packaging and set it up unless someone can tell me for sure whether I can get it going on my line?

The DSL jack isn't a problem as I can just use a cable with an RJ45 connector at one end and RJ11 at the other.

If you read what @meritez linked, the hardware in the device is different. So firmware from one won’t run on the other. It would be like trying to install iOS on an Android phone.

Ah yeah missed this -

'NOTE: Since there is a hardware difference between Annex A and Annex B, neither can we use an Annex A router on an Annex B line and vice versa, nor change the Annex Type by a firmware upgrade.'

Guess I'll just have to send the modem back then.

Thanks all for your reply's.
