I was lucky enough to bags a couple of Google Apps accounts as it was then known, while they were free. No regrets, an excellent service.
Of course, being Google, you have to kiss goodbye to privacy. You have to assume that everything you send or receive will be retained for all eternity, as well as passed to governments and (albeit anonymised) sold to advertisers. But actually, I suspect that happens on the whole internet, regardless of provider, privacy is a thing of the past.
Google Apps is no longer free, in fact now known as G Suite, it quite costly. But with above ‘privacy’ proviso, it is quite good... Google, for their faults, are indisputably competent. And they do understand security too, as well as the best, again with above proviso.
