13 minutes to the moon
« on: July 02, 2019, 11:29:25 AM »

Is anyone else following the BBC's 13 minutes to the moon podcast?

I'm finding it fascinating with good interviews with loads of the people involved. If nothing else you'll learn why 1302 so nearly caused the mission to be aborted.

PS Whilst on the topic of Space.   Did anyone else see the news last week about Spaceport Cornwall?   There's some interesting (& numerous) articles if you search the Interwebs - too many to list on here, but basically iirc Cornwall is projected to be a horizontal space port and another in the Highlands for vertical.

The concept of being able to get to Aus in 90 mins is incredible, but I must admit I couldn't help but think it would take so much longer than that to get to Cornwall :D

It would - by a long way.

Google says driving London to Newquay airport is about 4.5 hours. By train it is no quicker.

There's another series of this podcast going in to the Apollo 13 mission in detail - I've just finished listening to the third episode and it's just as fascinating as the first series.

13 Minutes To The Moon is *amazing*.  Really pleased they’re doing a second series about Apollo 13.

Between this and about 8 others, I get the value of my licence fee from podcasts alone!

Some others worth checking out (all factual):

- BBC Inside Science
- The Infinite Monkey Cage
- BBC Scientifically...
- You’re Dead To Me
- Death In Ice Valley (a BBC/NRK coproduction)
- Fake Heiress
- The Missing Crypto Queen

(and if you want more Space stuff, I can highly recommend The Space Above Us - a guy who works for NASA is reviewing and discussing *every* US manned mission, from Mercury-Redstone, through Apollo and on to the Space Shuttle.
