update 1903
« on: June 10, 2019, 09:44:14 AM »

I received notification yesterday that update 1903 was ready to download and install.  This was interesting as I have not received any notification to install 1809 released last October.

However I decided to download and install, what could possibly go wrong!  All went well until computer restart when the restart process commenced and then I got a message to say that the update was being uninstalled.  During the lengthy install process the laptop was inadvertently put into hibernation thus pausing the update.  Could be this caused the uninstall?

I should have read the previous thread on this forum!  I will delay installing.

My question is should I install update 1809 before trying to install 1903?  As I haven't received notification about updating to 1809 presumably I can go direct to MS website and install?

Thanks

gom

There is no need to install 1809 before 1903.

There is a good reason why 1809 wasn't offered to many customers  - it initially had multiple issues so it had to be withdrawn and reissued several months later - at which stage a) MS were still being cautious with the rollout and b) it was approaching time for 1903 to come out so they didn't push it very hard.

Thanks for your response.

Do I need to install 1809 or will 1903 pick up changes from 1809?

Installing 1903 will include any updates/features included in 1809 - no need to install both

Thought that might be the case but thank you for confirmation.

There are a few issues with the 1903 update which may or may not be relevant - see this page on the Microsoft website.

Thanks for link.  Having had one failed attempt to update think I will delay for now.

I thought I'd try and install this update today. I used the windows update function. It downloaded ok, but then stuck at 93% of the install phase.

I'll it again on Friday, after I've made a backup.

My main PC installed this update just the other day after a cryptic warning that required going on the web to decipher, turned out I just needed to remove an SD card, why it didn't say that I don't know, but all went well.

My main PC installed this update just the other day after a cryptic warning that required going on the web to decipher, turned out I just needed to remove an SD card, why it didn't say that I don't know, but all went well.

I remember the last time I updated windows it kept stalling and it turned out to be a game client launcher that just needed updating.

I was trying to remove the failed install last night, and the 'storage' menu sometimes wouldn't list all the areas, and would get stuck on cleaning up the windows update. I even loaded up disk clean-up and that was the same, stuck at cleaning the update.

I don't know why they don't stop forcing people to update versions. They should have the base OS that gets security updates. Then if people want new 'features', put it in a DLC and sell it. I'm sure most people wouldn't buy it. How many people use mixed reality? I wonder about the mental sanity of some of these so-called creative types at big software houses. They keep creating things nobody wants, and increases the chances of major bugs happening.

I'm going to trouble shoot the windows update later on and see if it finds anything.

Update

I used windows update trouble shooter and it claimed to find some issues, and fixed them. So I retried the windows update and again it stopped at 93%. So I decided to download windows update assistant, and that seemed to work. I'm now on 1903.
