40/10 vs 80/20
« on: June 02, 2019, 02:46:46 PM »

I'm seeing it I can squeeze a bit extra out of my line.

For a £1 difference, after special offers, I'm tempted to upgrade to 80/20 however the BT broadband checker only indicates my line is capable of 44Mbps.

If I took up this option would I start to see activity in the upper set of bands or would I be limited to activity in my current two lower sets of bands.

What modem/hub are you using and can you post any stats available from it?

If the line isn't using the D3 band at all in all probability it won't start using it just because your line was upgraded.

Upgrading to 80/20 would only see any benefit if you were reaching the 40Mb cap on the 40/10 package.

Your line is only reaching 35Mb so it would be the exact same if you upgraded.

You may be pleasantly surprised!

Most definitely not.
Looking at the stats again the power levels and the Interleaving show it's an ECI cabinet.
The line has lost 3dB (probably due to crosstalk) since it last synced as the target is 6dB.

So the OP will probably lose another 2-3Mb on the next resync.

I agree it's not worth it - the one exception (though unlikely) is if the Downstream Handback Threshold on https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ for the line is over 40MB as BT will send a Boost engineer to try and improve your line speeds.

Unfortunately the Handback Threshold is 26Mbps

Did gain a fraction on a resync but nothing to talk about. Now at 35236 Kbps
