BT/Openreach began installing more ECI's after one of the waves about the Security of Huawei equipment and it was at about that time that they started replacing some of their core equipment with other manufacturers' (Alcatel).
From memory there was some new law passed about 10yrs ago that all Chinese citizens/companies would comply with calls by the Chinese gov to assist in espionage which first started ringing alarm bells.. but I suppose if at a time of war then any country could impose similar
BT conducted some research years ago and found 'something' they were unhappy about, but chose to work with Huawei in resolving these issues - again from memory but Huawei spent a few million correcting whatever it was that BT was unhappy about - I don't think much info was disclosed exactly what the 'something' was.
There was also another more detailed investigation this year undertaken by
GCHQ. A lot also depends upon what "real evidence" the CIA claims to have found of
proof that Huawei was funded by China's Military and Intelligence. The likes of you and me are hardly likely to know what the truth is. :/
