Firefox extensions disabled
« on: May 04, 2019, 10:28:09 AM »

At 10am this morning all my extensions stopped working in Firefox.   Upon checking I see a long list of "could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled"

There is a widespread issue affecting most addons whereby Firefox is disabling any existing extensions and being unable to install any new ones.
Firefox is aware of the problem and issued the following statement "So sorry for the issue we’re having with add-ons right now! We’re working hard to fix it and will keep you updated."

According to this, it appears to be related to a certificate issue

It was working earlier. It appears to have gone down within about the past 15 mins  :(
Firefox are even linking to it from their twitter page - wonder if it's gone down because so many websites are linking to it right now?

Code: [Select]
503 Service Unavailable
The 503 Service Unavailable error is an HTTP status code that means the website's server is simply not available right now.
Most of the time, it occurs because the server is too busy or because there's maintenance being performed on it

---
ETA
Looks like it, some are reporting they are getting error "429 Too Many Requests". :(

---
Further update @ 11:37
Working again atm, so it does look like they may be struggling to cope with all the traffic directed to them.

I'm getting "502 Bad Gateway" now, and I had "429 Too Many Requests" two minutes ago. This is a good game, isn't it? :)

I use the extended support release (currently v60.6.1esr) and it continues to work normally with addons.

Same happened to me, then i read they were pushing out the update via 'studies'

I typed this to a friend;

Quote
to enable it go to firefox options, then privacy and security section.. and scroll down to firefox data collection and use.. then make sure allow firefox to send technical and interaction data to mozila is ticked, then you can tick allow firefox to install and run studies

It updated automatically about 2 minutes after. The extensions suddenly re-activated.

I noticed earlier that they started redirecting the original url for the add on fail page to their Site maintenance page :(

Mine did too, but on the extensions page there is a text link you can click to "show legacy and unsupported extensions".    All mine show up in there.

I've enabled 'Studies' but so far not got the hotfix update.
According to their blog about the incident it may take up to 6hrs to apply.

Is anyone else like me wondering why they have to use 'Studies' to push out the update?
When there's been bugs in the past they usually update immediately via the normal method.

Could it be that whatever is wrong is not only stopping new extensions being installed, but also any updates?
Or is that just a stupid theory..  because could they also not just roll out a whole new version which needed an uninstall/reinstall?
Mind you the later could be a PITA as you could end up losing stored data and would lose any of your extensions and associated data :(

This method works.
I posted on the FB page that mine hadn't updated yet, then a couple of mins later it was working again.

Mines back, didn't follow the link for legacy addon's, so they probably were there. Studies was already enabled on mine.
